Hope by Moeketsi Moahloli – A Vision of Tomorrow
We are proud to present Hope, a signature mixed media artwork by South African artist Moeketsi Moahloli, now showcased by The Artists Gallery in Cape Town.
Hope | Mixed Media | 100 x 150 cm | ZAR 39,000 (excl. VAT)
This powerful piece — of Hope | Mixed Media — captures a group of young boys walking to school, a poignant metaphor for aspiration, resilience, and the journey toward a brighter future. With this striking composition, Moahloli not only portrays a scene from daily life but also offers a compelling narrative on the promise of education and the spirit of youth.
Rendered in his signature style that blends charcoal, soft pastels, newspaper collage, and acrylic, the work carries layers of meaning. The use of newspaper adds context and depth — echoing stories, headlines, and the shared experience of his subjects. For Moahloli, each piece becomes a conversation between the past and the present, the personal and the universal.
Born in Soweto, Moeketsi Moahloli was raised by his single mother and deeply influenced by the vibrant culture of his community. After earning a degree in Multimedia Design from the University of Johannesburg, he spent six years in graphic design before dedicating himself fully to fine art. Today, his work reflects everyday encounters and the rich tapestry of life in South Africa.
Moahloli’s art is an invitation to see the world through his eyes — grounded, observant, and full of hope. His visual storytelling has been exhibited in numerous group shows across South Africa and, since 2019, with The Travelling Art Gallery across Europe.
Explore Hope and the new series now at The Artists Gallery, and discover a voice that continues to shape the landscape of contemporary South African art.
