Poetry’s AW18 Homeware Collection is Here!

The Poetry Homeware autumn/winter range for 2018 is now available in stores and online. This year’s collection takes far-flung inspiration from world travel, drawing on age-old lifestyle philosophies like Hygge from Denmark, Wabi-sabi from Japan, and Ubuntu from the African continent.

Let’s take a closer look:

Hygge:

The notion of Hygge comes from Denmark and refers to a state of being that is free of anything emotionally overwhelming; encouraging people to take pleasure from gentle, soothing things like snuggling up on a comfortable sofa, tucked under a warm throw, sipping on hot cocoa as a fire crackles away merrily and rain patters against the window.

From chunky cable-knit throws with tassels in pretty hues inspired by the streets of Jaipur, to the minimalistic, contemporary, colour-block approach of the marble collection that will have you dreaming of your very own New York city apartment, the new AW18 homeware range offers an entire world of cultural inspiration and creature comforts.

This includes new sleepwear options like fleece gowns in a light grey and feminine blush pink, as well as dark-and light-based floral print satin gowns and pyjama sets to cosy up with this winter. Our new bath & body range also offers an array of beautifully scented products to create an enjoyable experience for anyone who enters your home.

Marble is going nowhere – it’s just getting bigger and bigger. This offering includes everything from dark grey marble boards to brass cheese knives set with marble handles for a modern and sophisticated edge. This is juxtaposed with dark botanical prints that include traditional block printed table textiles from Jaipur, and delicate loungewear items like our pretty Japanese-inspired printed gowns.

Wabi-sabi: The acceptance of transience and imperfection.

Wabi-sabi is a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life. This notion is made tangible in the AW18 range of modern collectables that feature unique, considered elements such as the alabaster stone story in our bath & body range that includes a dispenser and soap dish to complement this season’s stone and white bath mats.

The Wonki Ware collection has always been about finding beauty in imperfections and creating a deeply personal and organic aesthetic. This season, the range of hand painted tea cups has also evolved to include a collection of unique pieces, each carefully hand painted by a talented local artist, as well as ceramic teaspoons, tea sets and cheese boards.

The colours used throughout the AW18 range is as vibrant as they are feminine. Soft greys and blues may still be the neutral of choice for many categories, but the colours are also slightly bolder this season, ranging from navy-based floral printed tea towels and tablecloths accented with rich tones of marigold yellow, to metallic-embossed hand bound leather journals perfect for documenting your latest travels.

Ubuntu: I am because we are

The Ubuntu philosophy represents an African conception of human beings, their relationship with the community, and the connectedness that exists between people. It’s about sharing the love.

This season, Poetry is particularly passionate about their ceramics, as these items are largely locally made and also presents a highly flexible space for creativity. Other locally made items that feature throughout the AW18 collection include handmade soaps, bath oils, hand-poured candles, various stationery items, as well as our delicious confectionary range of toffees, nougat, chocolate, salt, tea and spices.

But Ubuntu is about more than just supporting local artisans –it’s about sharing and gifting. Welcome friends and loved ones to your table by setting a modern winter mood with the newly introduced Petra dinner set that includes dinner plates, side plates, bowls, as well as matching salad bowl and serving tray.

A new colour block story has also been introduced with marble and wood on coasters and boards. However, the undisputed star of the AW18 show is the handmade, feminine blue and genuine gold tea set that includes a tea pot, milk jug, tea cups and saucers, mugs, salt-and sugar spoons, as well as a cake lifter and butter dish.

Whether you punctuate your current look and feel with a few choice items, or choose to reinvigorate your entire homeware palette, there is a wide variety of inspiring elements with which to experiment this season.
