Wolkberg Casting Studios Makes Waves With Limesite
Wolkberg Casting Studios exist for design and collaboration. They industrial design and manufacture products made from a variety of materials including concrete, wood, steel, copper and more. The focus, however, is on a special concrete developed by the team, known as Limesite.
What is Limesite?
Limesite is robust yet aesthetically pleasing. The material has valuable properties that other concrete products do not have, such as:
- Scratch resistance
- Stain resistance
- UV stability
Limesite is used successfully by leading interior designers, architects and commercial brands in kitchens as countertops, furniture interior and exterior use, decorative wall cladding and unique lighting fixtures

Wolkberg’s advanced manufacturing processes ensure a consistent quality product that is fully cured when it leaves the factory; this ensures there are minimum chances of cracking due to shrinkage. Being a local manufacturer also means the team are able to address any
product issues that may come up post installation.
It is their Industrial Design skills that allow Wolkberg Casting Studio to create fit for purpose products tailor made to suit a need at the right price. This is a service
that is unique and the team offer a well thought out and rounded service and product that goes hand in hand. There are many reasons they decided to offer a service and a product, the main reason lies in the principles of innovation management.
“We knew what we started to do in 2015, was true innovation in alternative materials and this meant we needed more control of its’ dissemination into the market, to ensure it takes off smoothly during the market development phase. We were finally confident enough in our material innovation in 2017 so we trialed it for over 6 months before the official launch at 100% Design JHB in 2017 which set us on the path we only assumed existed.”
The industry collaborations and engagement with other innovators and early adopters gave the team the added confidence that the concept had a place in the market. They have a skill and capability to bring others’ product visions to reality.
Wolkberg’s mission is to push the boundaries in product design and manufacturing
using high performance concrete called Limesite paired with a variety of other technologically advanced manufacturing methods.
They aim to test their research and development capabilities and create a low or dare we say no environmental impact concrete. Their research to date indicates that this is a real possiblity in the near future.
“We aim to always keep ahead of the curve for the sake of innovation. This allows us to bring one of a kind products to our clients at the right time.”
Collaborations will always be a driving force as this will ensure the team stay in touch with clients, providing a design and manufacturing service that can bring their wildest ideas to life.
