The Wild Palms Hotel Returns with a Bold, Retro-Inspired Makeover in Sunnyvale
The Wild Palms Hotel in Sunnyvale, California, is back—and it’s bolder, brighter, and buzzing with retro charm.
Now rocking a vibrant new look, the hotel, part of the Hyatt portfolio, has emerged from a head-to-toe revamp led by NYC-based design studio BHDM. Their mission? To transform the space into a playful, midcentury-inspired haven that captures the easy-breezy spirit of California living.
Stepping into the redesigned double-height lobby feels like walking onto the set of a stylish summer holiday. Think citrus-toned furniture, powder-coated tubular chairs reminiscent of vintage poolside lounges, and a swirling ceiling mobile of candy-coloured circles. A bold blue geometric rug ties it all together, adding a splash of energy underfoot.
The breakfast room keeps the good vibes rolling with cabana-striped walls, cosy banquettes, rattan light fixtures, and an assortment of cheerful, patterned pillows. It’s a setting that practically demands you linger a little longer over your morning coffee.
“Tropical motifs such as beach balls and cabana stripes were used throughout, further emphasising the sunny nature of the destination,” says the BHDM team.
Even the hallways got a glow-up, now bathed in vibrant shades of orange and yellow, complete with durable Bolon flooring. Rooms off the pool area carry through the theme with cool blue accents and a lively terrace dotted with yellow loungers and umbrellas – ideal for soaking up that California sun.
BHDM didn’t stop at surface-level changes either. Structural tweaks like removing the original breakfast room and opening up the check-in area have created a breezier, more welcoming flow throughout the space.
The result? A hotel that’s equal parts nostalgia and new energy – ready to welcome guests with sunny style and a wink of retro flair.
