Plascon House Tour: New York Living
City life is fast and furious in the Big Apple but today’s stunning New York home takes on a slower pace of life, complete with a surprisingly small town garden – a gem in the city!
This Bergen Street Townhouse is an Italianate brownstone located in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Park Slope. Newly renovated, this American family home feels relatively spacious and appealing, with a mix of modern furniture and vintage elements that add to its eclectic ambience.
The architectural team behind the renovations are known to recast Brooklyn’s classic dark and narrow townhouses into stylish new creations fit for 21st-century living.
The house was completely gut renovated to create a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house for a growing family with a rental apartment on the garden level. All walls including structural walls were removed from to create a completely open plan for Kitchen, Dining and Living space. A large steel and glass window wall was inserted into the rear of the house to open the Parlor Level to a new patio and stairs that lead to the garden.
This home is filled with clever design ideas including a wood-fired kitchen grill and colour-coded bedrooms. As for the fun directive: A projector was mounted on the ceiling so movies can be screened on the wall next to the original fireplace, which is now back in working order. The new floor is plain-sawn white oak, unstained and finished with Bona Naturale, a sealant that has an untreated look.
The master bath is a haven of luxury, complete with gorgeous patterned tiled flooring and a striking freestanding tub. The owners wanted a big, beautiful tiled room with a gorgeous tub. For everything else, they went with simple, affordable fittings and finishes.
The kitchen opens to a balcony that leads the newly resurrected garden. The ground floor has a separate apartment, a rental that helps pay for the remodel.
