Plascon House Tour: Tranquil Sea-Inspired Family Home

The white, bright interior of this Canadian house is underscored by the owner’s quiet nod to beachside living, from its white walls to the warm white oak floors. A once dark 1950’s home, today it is beautifully airy and inviting with a spectrum of bright shades including white, turquoise and navy.

Natural elements are must-haves in a home committed to casual comfort and warmth, so wood, linen, cotton and wool make cameos in almost every room in this home. The rooms feel spacious, filled with light and modern, yet casual finishes. The wide open spaces are ideal for family living and with durable materials, the open plan floorplan makes for the perfect area in which to unwind with the children.

Beachy hues in the entryway echo the nearby Pacific Ocean. The glass and wood banister is a far cry from the black metal railing that once stood here.

The kitchen is crisp and light – a contemporary space that is beautifully bright and modern. We love the herringbone backsplash in simple white and the choice of durable finishes that add to the completed space. Floating shelves are ideal as the decor can be changed to suit the season.

Similarly, the clean, crisp interior extends to the bathroom, where a white palette sets the stage. The encaustic cement tiles, which reminded the homeowners of travels to East Africa, were the focal point in this space. As such, the master bath was designed around them. The mirrored medicine cabinets are recessed to optimize storage.

For the exterior, they went bold, opting for a striking combination of white and black to accentuate the home’s new architectural lines and many windows. What had once been a dreary little dwelling is now a crisp-looking 4,000-square-foot modern farmhouse with coastal nuances.
