A modern renovation sees floor to ceiling windows that make the most of the impressive views of the Pacific Ocean. The home was beautifully renovated by Butler Armsden Architects and Leverone Design who turned this residence into an accommodating space to suit the owners’ wishes. Today it is a striking family retreat, imbued with the area’s dramatic beauty and the pastoral modernism of the Sea Ranch tradition. The renovation took four years, and included a new guest house addition as well as a two-storey extension which houses an office.
We love the simplicity of the exterior, boasting an organic feel with timber-frame structure clad in cedar wooden siding. The interior boasts wonderfully woody tones too, with rooms wrapped in bleached fir to suit a modern muted colour scheme.
An open plan kitchen becomes a place of entertainment. With modern amenities and a streamlined look, the kitchen here, is the heart of the home. A custom-designed back-painted glass backsplash brings the blue-grey tones of the water inside, while Caesarstone Black Raven countertops provide a stark contrast. Bulthaup appliances update the kitchen’s functionality.
With ample windows that open up to lawns and veranda areas, the owners can further enjoy the views from their own exterior spaces. This allows for a radiant interior with impeccable views that can be seen and enjoyed from various angles. Even in the living room, furniture has been placed as to maximise the views and flow of light into the space.
Things are kept simple and uncomplicated. A beautiful mix of modern and custom furniture pieces that do not detract from the main attraction – the big blue ocean on their doorstep.
Designers carefully considered their choice of materials as to link the interior to the natural landscape and ocean outside. From wood covered walls and ceilings to oversized windows, the focus on nature is very evident in every room.
