Plascon House Tour: A West Sussex Country Home
Far from a conventional English country home, today’s special abode takes us to West Sussex where modern finishes and playful design choices are the order of the day.
Take me to the country…
As we are all still in the midst of a Covid-19 lockdown in South Africa, we can all close our eyes and dream about life in the English country. Today’s home takes us there as it evokes the ruins of a Roman villa with its sheer volume and position within the poetic scenery of the South Downs National Park.
The brick exterior is a far cry from the creative modern interior. Cement walls and ceilings add an urban modern approach, while colourful furniture and art add a vibrant touch to the interior. The layout is ever intriguing with secret staircases and mezzanine level rooms and balconies, adding interest at every turn. Antique pieces, roman influences and minimalist artwork all mix together beautifully in this country home.
A modern twist…
The living spaces are packed with ceramics, sculptural pieces and interesting tapestries that bring colour and texture to each space. This certainly is a modern twist on an old country home. Floor to ceiling drapes in various colours can be found throughout this home – adding to the playful use of colour in this home.
It certainly is a futuristic home, playing on the owner’s love for film and the Sci-fi movement. Inside, things are contemporary and a little ‘out there’ while the exterior backdrop of rolling hills adds a fresh feel. Arched windows allow for light to move around the rooms and for the overall enjoyment of the outdoor landscapes.
