Plascon House Tour: A Power Plant Re-envisioned
Today’s house tour takes us into a fascinating space that is far from conventional or ordinary. In fact, a historic landmark and former power plant was re-envisioned into a beautiful two-bedroom residence. It is certainly a vibrant and unique home filled with character.
This Copenhagen heritage building was initially built as a water pumping station with a towering chimney. Today however, is has taken on an exquisite reformation – totally transformed into a contemporary living space while retaining the charm of the architectural shell.
An architect’s playground, this home now boasts an array of intricate details including a modern staircase that’s clad in extruded aluminium panelling and cuts through the double height main space, while bedrooms at mezzanine level feature floor to ceiling glass walls.
Beautiful Terrazo floorings creates a seamless look in the downstairs spaces. Here, concrete walls have been perfectly matched to suit the shades of the flooring and create a beautiful neutral backdrop for contemporary living.
The entire home has a classic, Nordic ambience with neutral tones and pops of texure such as concrete, leather, glass and aluminium. A beautiful and bold black kitchen is striking and demands atttention in this space. A large central island captivates and ties into the colour scheme of the room.
Adjacent to the kitchen, a simple dining space further takes on a modern appearance with bold wooden table made from birch burl veneer. Three 5 metre-long pendant lamps add definition here with Perspex discs, specially designed to hang from the exposed pitched roof.
The bedrooms each make the most of the indoor and outdoor space, each with their own balconies. A large skylight in the bathroom also enriches the space, adding to the play of natural lighting in this space. Modern finishes in Terrazo, with white cabinetry, creates a calming and contemporary bathroom environment.
Overall, a sleek and sophisticated home and a renovation well done!
