Perfect Hideaways: The Pavilion, Cradle of Humankind
Quite possibly one of the most scenic locations in the country, the Cradle of Humankind is one of South Africa’s leading World Heritage Sites as a 53 000 hectare site of global significance. It is here, amid the beauty of the natural landscape that we find The Pavilion, a super-cool, minimalist retreat available to rent through Perfect Hideaways.
The architect decided to use glass and steel for the 60 square metre glass box. This was done to facilitate an even more intimate relationship with the scenery. The house has therefore been kept to basics and the simplicity and elegance along with the “openness” of the space make for a welcomed retreat. The compact glass structure makes for an unobtrusive addition to the landscape. It boasts seemingly invisible walls which we refer to as a ‘glass curtain’. Many of them are actually sliding doors that can be pulled aside.
Enjoy drinks on the rooftop verandah. Watch the sunset over the landscape on hot summer evenings. Or stay downstairs and have a cup of Gluehwein (or a glass of red wine) in the ‘white box’, which furthermore features a fireplace deep inside, during winter months to keep warm.
Rate per night R4150, sleeping 2. To book The Pavilion, send an email to sarah@perfecthideaways.co.za now!
