Let’s Talk Paint Techniques: Before And After with Annie Sloan

Today it is so simple to give your older furniture a modern refresh. With Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, your outdated furniture items can be given a new lease on life.

Let’s take a look at some paint renovations and inspiration, from Annie Sloan.

Chloe of Maisie’s House used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Provence all over her old wooden cabinet after pasting textured wrapping paper over the mirror. She then used a wash of Svenska Blue over the top before massaging Black Chalk Paint Wax into the ridges and crevices of the paper and beyond! A final layer of Clear Chalk Paint Wax gives long lasting protection. What do you think? A total transformation indeed!

Jeanie Simpson, New Zealand native, and upcycling magician, used Chalk Paint in Rodmell as her base on this sturdy set of drawers! They don’t look like they’d stand for any nonsense, do they? Jeanie then applied a wash of Graphite over the top of the Rodmell. The circles have been drawn in Old White with citrus-peel Firle, egg-yolk Tilton and watermelon seed Graphite details. Depth and shadow comes from Black Chalk Paint Wax and then the whole thing has been sealed with Clear Chalk Paint Wax. What a beaut!

This last piece is very much an open the tin, whack some paint on, and bob’s your uncle! And no less beautiful for it. Chalk Paint in Louis Blue is a fantastic colour; gentle enough to flatter your furniture but not wishy-washy. This pastel blue was inspired by Rococo furnishings from the court of Louis XIV but works just as well in Poppyseed Creative Living’s retro vintage setting. A great choice for those who want to incorporate more colour into their home but are a little nervous about taking the plunge!

Let’s talk Colour:

Provence My Point

Chalk Paint in Provence is a nostalgic, cheerful, summery blue. We love how blue can be warm and sunshiney like Mediterranean seas, or cool and icy like frozen mountain peaks. Provence is firmly in the former camp and we love how it seamlessly blends into any summer interior.
