No stranger to the world of immaculate interiors, Kelly Wearstler is at it again, and this time with a glorious Mid-Century Modern bungalow!
Kelly is probably best known for her interiors that ooze with elegant and bold designs. Today, her project in Marlboro Residence, Los Angeles has piqued our interest. Let’s take a look inside…
Kelly Wearstler is a designer who values the importance of a home as a space for relationships and love, proof of which was accepting the challenge of redesigning a classic Californian home. Her signature blend of layers, materials and both new and old is suffused with potent moments find a home in this welcoming 1960s Californian family bungalow.
Notably, Kelly acted as both interior architect and interior designer on the redesign, which was a full-gut renovation. Some original 1960s features of the building were kept but major work was also undertaken such as raising ceilings and adding skylights which, Kelly notes, “create beautiful shadowing throughout various times of the day”.
The Marlboro Residence is a perfect example of Wearstler’s ability to combine distinct styles to create a luxurious yet welcoming space. The four-bedroom, six-bathroom home is a spacious space with white walls that highlight the vibrant colours and textures of the materials used. The designer mixed vintage and modern elements, creating a sense of balance and harmony between old and new.
Framed by dark timber floors, the kitchen is a feat of white tones replete with a platinum quartzite island and benchtops set against Blue de Savoie splashbacks and detailing.
This home envelopes with layered textures and nuances that add to the cosiness of each space. The use of natural materials such as wood, leather, and stone, therefore, appear throughout the house, whether in the furniture, finishes, or decorative details.
Wood, in particular, is a material that often appears on walls, ceilings, and floors, bringing a touch of warmth and cosiness to the environment.
