House Tour: A 1960’s Home Transformation
Serene and calming. This was the ambience that informed the brief for today’s house tour – an old 1960’s brick home transformation. A lot of hard work went into making it a peaceful family retreat.
This stylish family home featured on Adore Home Magazine and belongs to the Miller family who bought the home on auction. It was a 1960’s brock three-bedroom, two-bath home, set to the front of a great north-facing block. It hadn’t been lived in by anyone in years and the home itself was dilapidated and in need of some TLC.
Owners explain, “It was in need of a lot of love, but we could tell it had so much potential, and we love the location right near the Barwon River.”
They decided to renovate and brighten up this home, giving it a fresh new look with lots of natural lighting and cool, neutral tones. Achieving the look they wanted meant incorporating into the design a white and timber, VJ panelling, and keeping the original raked ceilings.
Everything was kept light and simple for a streamlined and minimalist look. Terrazo tiles add a little spunk throughout and feature as the flooring in the bathroom. Walls are kept clean and white, offset by natural timber furniture for an organic and timeless look.
The living space also opens up to an outdoor garden and patio with dining space. Outdoor seating, together with a deck and grass area opens up the living room to the great outdoor.
In the end, it is an epic renovation which took a dated ’60s brick home and turned it into an enviable Byron-meets-Palm Springs-style abode.
