House & Leisure: Excess & the return of maximalism
House & Leisure editor Tiaan Nagel talks Design & Decor trends for 2017
Last year focused on woven wall hangings and minimalist Scandinavian inspired interiors. This year is going to see the return of excess and maximalist design. Scanning and determining the trends, editor at House & Leisure, Tiaan Nagel, has shared his insights and forecast with us. “Life is short, we are going to surround ourselves with objects we love, in contrasting colours and textures,” he says. “The defining ‘look’ is gone, it’s all about being true to oneself and the result will be eclectic and personal.”
He believes that we’ll be looking at softer, rounder more romantic shapes and silhouettes, which gives us more room to play around with the more vulnerable aspect of our interiors, and thus ourselves, giving a welcoming feeling all round. Pantone’s Greenery ascent will come into play in all the right ways, giving nature the embellishment and luxury it can create. The trend report also says stained glass, polished silver, peach colours, pale elegant hues, nature themes, terrazzo stone and terracotta surfaces will all be showing their face.
