Franke Features Street Artist Mook Lion At Decorex Durban

You may have already heard of Mook Lion or have seen his work in the inner-city of Durban. He is one South Africa’s foremost street artists and muralists and shares his art passionately with his city.

A statement splashback and make for an impressive focal point in your kitchen. Mook Lion has created this beautiful piece featuring Wonderful Creatures in the Kitchen at Decorex

Armed with a Masters in Technology in Fine Art (DUT), he explains that he initially approached graffiti and fine art separately, and it was really when he combined the two disciplines that he found something he really enjoyed. Mook Lion’s work takes influence from the print technique linocut and uses very graphic and bold marks.

One of his many completed projects around the city includes his “Still Free Exhibition ” – an exhibition held on Anton Lembede Street in Durban’s CBD where he brought fine art to a public space. This is an idea Mook Lion or “Mookie” as he is all known by, is very passionate about.

Another project involved Mookie collaborating with other local street artists to lift the cities electricity mini-substation boxes in partnership with the eThekwini Municipality – which coincided with the UIA International Union of Architects Conference held in Durban in 2014.
Commercially he has collaborated with brands such as Blackberry, Converse and Nandos to name a few.

Make it Wonderful

In 2015 the Franke Group launched a global campaign introducing “Make It wonderful” as Franke’s official tagline. This is Franke’s promise to make everyday life a little more special for end consumers and for its business partners.

To bring the creative idea to life, Franke commissioned internationally renowned artists including Victo Ngai , Shan Jiang and ilovedust to provide whimsical and humorous insights into everyday moments associated with Franke’s product portfolio emotionally. The drawings and doodles show how Franke products lighten people’s workload, increase their well-being through social encounters, and turn a house into a home.
