Brighten Up With Brick
Clay brick is one of the world’s oldest known building materials and dates as far back as 8000 BC. This ancient building material is extremely versatile and resilient and remains a popular choice in architectural design today.
Current design trends utilize clay brick both inside and outside the home to innovate small spaces – creating interesting and intricate geometric patterns whilst increasing natural lighting and airflow.
This enclosed brick patio forms a protection from the elements and allows in natural light in the form of dappled squares creating a dreamy visual effect and the perfect spot for a meditation or reading room. The choice of brick used here has a smooth finish, which gives a velvety texture. To design an enclosed patio like this one I recommend using bricks from Corobrik’s Satin range. “Firelight” is a gorgeous terracotta colour with a smooth, satin finish.
This modern and minimalistic home uses exposed brick in its design structure for functional reasons (support, stability, low maintenance and reasonably affordable material) but for aesthetic appeal too. This face brick wall acts as a stunning feature in the courtyard and, with a single glass window inserted on the left, allows just the right amount of natural light into the living room inside whilst providing some privacy for the inhabitants.
When designing an outdoor feature wall for your home remember that red face brick makes a striking feature next to raw concrete walls – as seen below.
If you don’t want to make such a bold statement but still love the idea of using brick, why not use a brick colour with more subtle tones such as Corobrik’s “Titanium”? (Pictured below.)
This exterior brick screen wall provides enough privacy from the rest of the household without blocking sunlight and darkening the space. This wall is a good solution for houses or apartments close together where inhabitants want something private and visually appealing without it feeling like they are hiding behind a high-security fortress. Choose a rustic finish for a more earthy look such as “Tokai Red.”
Whether you choose to use them for their strength and durability or aesthetic appeal, bricks are in high demand in contemporary architecture. Visit Corobrik for your next building project and explore their eco-friendly face brick products available in a wide variety of textures and colours. How would you use bricks to brighten up your home? We’d love to hear from you.
