Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Nature
We love celebrating nature and creating beautiful spaces to enjoy the outdoors. Annie Sloan makes this easy. Here she shares some great ideas and endless inspo to help you dream up your own outdoor DIY.
In the Garden
Project number one is the clever use of Chalk Paint® in the garden. The inspiration behind this space was to transform a small, paved inner city garden, with no organic planting available into a stylish terrace. The aim was to create a space for relaxing, socialising and enjoying moments of calm.
How would one make an outdoors area that fitted with the home whilst making the most of limited space and planting restrictions? This is the answer! An earthy palette inspired by urbanity, rusticity gives a cosmopolitan nod to earth tones without over-compensating.
If you haven’t got much green in your garden, you’re going to want some: be it Chalk Paint® in Antibes Green, Amsterdam Green, or as in this case: Olive. Mediterranean landscapes are known for their rough, rocky but beautiful terrain – so what better shade top reference the mountainsides of Greece than Chalk Paint® in Olive. Think of hardy but beautiful trees triumphing over those craggy terraces. That can be your garden!
You can also triumph over the incongruity of a bright white plastic chair in an outdoor oasis. Knock back glaring, artificial white of plastic garden furniture and suggest organic beauty using Chalk Paint® in Olive. Dry brushed Athenian Black on the fencing highlights the texture of the wood and gives a chic backdrop to this sophisticated terrace.
Floral Inspiration
The image of a rainbow-coloured, joyful garden in Chalk Paint® brights is as polar opposite as the previous as possible. The mural using Chalk Paint® in Giverny and featuring traditional English meadow flowers and wildlife celebrates the concupiscence of bucolic flora and fauna. Bright, bold, and playful this characterful garden by The Random Renovator brings cheerfulness rather than calm to the space she shares with her young family. The contrast makes it immediately obvious to me just why Chalk Paint® is so beloved.
Both spaces have used Chalk Paint® to personalise small gardens, offset concrete and provide year-round colour and both are totally different but totally gorgeous and totally suited to their owners. We’re in love. There are so many projects in this slice of paradise that it’s hard to know where to look. Rachel has painted plastic, brick, wood and so much more!
