Spice things up in the bathroom by the way you lay your tiles

Tiles are not only functional and durable additions in the bathroom. They can also add style and aesthetic value. There are many different shapes and patterns available in the ways we choose to lay tiles. Opt for something more creative in design and create an eye-catching bathroom environment you will adore. Here are a few fun and innovative ways to lay tiles in a modern bathroom.

Besides your traditional square and rectangular tiles, you could choose a more vibrant design such as these fun hexagonal tiles, featured in black (see image below). Used on the floor or wall, the shape adds depth and design to an otherwise average bathroom. We also love the classic white subway tile used in this bathroom, from floor to ceiling on the wall adjacent to the shower. Subway tiles offer timeless elegance in the bathroom. Here, offset with black, the bathroom takes on a very contemporary ambiance.

Other interesting ways to lay tiles include:

1. Checkerboard effect

Two colours of square tiles alternate to create this pattern. They can be set straight or on the diagonal.

2. Pinwheel

Also known as Hopscotch, a small square tile is surrounded by four larger ones.

3.  Basketweave

This classic pattern is made with squares and rectangles to create a woven effect.

4. Herringbone

This pattern adds sophisticated visual texture to the floor. Brighten up your bathroom with bright glass or ceramic tiles in an elegant herringbone pattern.

5. Running bond

This basic layout is also called a brick or offset pattern. The tiles are offset by half the width of the tile.
