Hans Grohe
Entrepreneurial Spirit Par Excellence
Born on 14 May 1871 in Luckenwalde near Berlin, during a period of sweeping industrial transformation, Hans Grohe came of age at a time when steam was yielding to electricity and modern industry was redefining Europe. The sixth child of a clothmaker, he was initially destined for the family trade.
History, however, had different plans.
In 1901, Grohe founded his own metal workshop in Schiltach, demonstrating courage, foresight and ingenuity. Over the decades that followed — through two world wars, economic upheaval and profound social change — he remained guided by perseverance and belief in progress. For more than fifty years, his inventions helped shape an emerging industry, improving comfort, hygiene and functionality in the modern home.
When he passed away in 1955 at the age of 84, he left behind more than a company. He left a philosophy. His youngest son, Klaus Grohe, would later expand the enterprise internationally, laying the foundations for the global organisation known today as the Hansgrohe Group. The founder’s journey remains a testament to how visionary thinking and entrepreneurial courage can redefine an entire sector.
