Sub Saharan Africa suffers from greater levels of water stress than many other regions in the world, although access to water supply has been steadily improving the region still lags behind all other developing regions.

Water shortages are highly evident in South Africa at present. Many cities across the country are experiencing massive water shortages. Dam levels have reached all-time lows and citizens are experiencing serious water restrictions.

The extreme drought conditions experienced in Cape Town last year have continued into 2019 and spread across the country with towns such as Beaufort West not having any water for the past few months while others such as Grahamstown are now on the verge of ’Day Zero’. One thing that has become abundantly clear is that saving water is everyone’s problem and not just those that are directly affected.
