How To Choose The Perfect Bathroom Blinds with Luxaflex

Choosing bathroom blinds can be a slippery issue. Blinds for bathrooms need to cover condensation, light control, and of course, your modesty.

Here we run through a few ways to choose the perfect bathroom blinds:

Make sure they’re up to the job…

Whether a personal haven, or a busy family thoroughfare, bathrooms are in great demand. To keep them low maintenance, window coverings need to be moisture and mould resistant, or even better, waterproof. If they can also be discreet and save you money, all the better. Form wood, metal and plastic are clearly waterproof but there are great waterproof blind alternatives available, made from fabric. Look for a special coating such as Dustblock® available from Luxaflex®. A large room may need a more luxurious window treatment, such as a large-scale blind in a sheer or shimmery fabric. Using a curtain in combination with wooden blinds can also soften the room and provide visual relief from hard surfaces and lines.

Nobody likes a chilly bathroom…

Anything that can lock in heat on a winter’s morning is a great choice. Energy-saving blinds prevent up to 50% of heat from being lost through your windows (even with double glazing). Ensure that your window coverings offer thermal gain management features. You can also opt for energy saving Duette® Shades from Luxaflex®, which do the trick wonderfully. Let the light in…

A window can stop a small bathroom from feeling claustrophobic. Adding a skylight can be ideal. However, don’t rule out adding a new window, even if the space is difficult or unusual; it’s possible to get bathroom blinds specially shaped to move and tilt to accommodate awkward window frame shapes.

The naked truth

Privacy is clearly important in a bathroom. It’s crucial to consider blinds that cover a window without blocking out too much light. Roller blinds are a great option for saving space (and can be very cost effective), but also consider solutions such as top down-bottom up blinds to make the most of available light and space.     Venetian blinds

Venetian blinds come in different finishes, from waterproof blinds to angled aluminium options for increased privacy. Small aluminium slats offer privacy even when open, but larger 50mm slats can seem contemporary and allow for visibility when you want to let the world in. Try using contrasting cotton tapes such as blue on yellow for a modern ‘colour pop’ to break up the white that often dominates bathroom schemes.

Add some ritual to bathing

Bathroom shutters may add classical glamour. Bright white finishes can evoke seaside freshness, whilst form wood blinds may add a Scandinavian sauna feel.

And don’t forget…

The smallest room in the house may also need some attention. A toilet or small guest bathroom may benefit from the introduction of shades. Brightly patterned roller blinds, such as a cheery classic stripe can add some visual interest as well as their obvious practical benefits. Something to think about when you’re taking that shower…
