Geberit: Finding The Right Installation Height In Your Bathroom
Geberit has some tips to ensure everything in the bathroom is mounted correctly.
Over time, nothing is as annoying as a washbasin that has been installed too low. Constant bending down offers a daily reminder that something important has been forgotten when planning the bathroom – namely the correct installation height. Geberit is on hand to offer some tips here.
How high should the washbasin, toilet or mirror cabinet be installed?
The answer is very simple – it depends! Is the person using it tall or short, fit and healthy or with limited mobility? People who are about 176 cm tall have it easy, as this is the standard used to define installation heights. However, for taller people the installation height of 80 cm for the washbasin is definitely too low. This may also be the case when it comes to the toilet, with its standard height of 40 cm. This leads to crouching rather than sitting on the toilet. While this is anatomically more beneficial, getting up afterwards can be a struggle.
If not instructed otherwise, the plumber installs the sanitary elements at a standard height. If other installation heights are required, this should be discussed in advance and expressly agreed upon with the plumbing company or planning office. It is also recommended to remind the plumber of this shortly before they start with the installation.
What the standard says
Every person is unique, meaning the ideal installation height is also different for everyone. If there are no requests to the contrary, plumbers install the bathroom elements according to the applicable standards.Between 100 cm and 180 cm. Here, the installation height depends on whether people at a lower eye level should also be able to use the mirror comfortably.
- Mirror or mirror cabinet
Between 100 cm and 180 cm. Here, the installation height depends on whether people at a lower eye level should also be able to use the mirror comfortably. Mirrors and mirror cabinet can be installed so that the centre point of the mirror is installed at 160cm from the finished floor level. This makes it easier for both short and tall people to use the same space.
- Washbasin
85 cm (standard); Geberit recommendation: 85 cm - Clothes hooks
110 cm - Toilet
40 cm (standard); Geberit recommendation: 45 cm
