Cape Town Hotels Are Redefining Inclusive Luxury
Accessible design has evolved rapidly in recent years, and industry conversations continue to highlight just how important thoughtful, inclusive spaces have become. A pivotal moment for Vaniti House arrived in early 2021 during an insightful discussion between the team and Richard Thompson from Inclu Group in the UK. That exchange sparked a new way of looking at accessibility—one that centred on designing bathrooms for future needs, aging in place, and a wide range of mobility requirements.
This perspective inspired Vaniti House to refine its direction and purpose. The brand now curates elegant, thoughtfully engineered support rail systems that enhance both safety and aesthetics within the bathroom environment. These collections reflect a commitment to creating beautiful spaces where independence is supported, encouraged and protected.
The shift in awareness around accessible design is gathering strong momentum globally, with Cape Town seeing a noticeable rise in demand. Vaniti House currently collaborates with three major hotel groups on accessible bathroom products, a sign that inclusivity has become an essential component of modern, future-focused design rather than a specialised request.
Despite this progress, the phrase “grab rail” still carries an outdated image for many homeowners. It often triggers concerns about clinical-looking solutions or the feeling of “not being there yet.” Designers encounter this hesitation regularly. One example involved a homeowner who genuinely needed additional support in the shower but resisted the idea based solely on perception.
Once clients take the time to view the products, their response changes. The support rail systems reveal a refined design language—soft to the touch, streamlined in form, and crafted to integrate effortlessly into contemporary spaces. They add comfort and safety without compromising the visual appeal of the bathroom. In fact, these pieces are designed to be celebrated rather than hidden.
Cape Town’s top hotels are demonstrating that accessible design can be luxurious. As more architects, designers, developers and homeowners adopt this approach, the industry edges closer to a future where inclusive design becomes synonymous with good design.
