Choosing the cover for SA Décor and Design is always a moment of both excitement and intention. It’s never simply about selecting something beautiful — it’s about capturing a visual that speaks to the pulse of the global design landscape. This year’s cover accomplishes exactly that: refined, thoughtful, and distinctly forward-looking.
At the heart of this visual narrative is Roche Bobois, the iconic international brand whose lifestyle collections grace homes, hotels, and commercial spaces across South Africa and the world. Known for its innovation, craftsmanship, and unmistakable design language, Roche Bobois continues to set the bar for luxury living.
We have had the privilege of working closely with Sandrine Fanchette of Roche Bobois — a creative leader whose vision is both inspiring and deeply rooted in the principles of exceptional design. Her ability to bring a team together, navigate aesthetic decisions, and guide the creative process with grace and precision made her an invaluable partner in this journey. We explored several compelling options for this year’s cover, but it was Sandrine’s seasoned insight that helped us arrive at the perfect choice.
A Story in Form and Function
The cover features the Cestello Cocktail Table, designed by Gabriel Fedele — a stunning centerpiece that exemplifies functional artistry. Crafted from twelve identical aluminium slats, interlocked to create a sculptural base, the Cestello table is both modular and elegant. Its versatility, with options for clear or colored glass tops and multiple finishes, reflects a design philosophy grounded in innovation and refinement.
Complementing the table is the Sense sofa, a remarkable creation from Studio Roche Bobois. Inspired by the brand’s iconic Tangram and Digital models from the 1970s, this new design embraces organic form and fluid lines. The seat resembles a smooth pebble, topped by a serpentine backrest — an interplay of structure and softness. The integration of a chaise longue into the design adds to its sculptural quality, while offering unparalleled comfort.
In its leather version, the Sense sofa pays homage to the tactile richness of the ’70s. The serpentine backrest remains, but the leather is cut from larger patterns, resulting in pleated finishes that deliver both visual interest and luxurious comfort. The form itself is atypical: a continuous curve that allows for varied seat depths, while at each end, the backrest wraps inward to form alcoves — perfect for curling up or stretching out.
Together, these pieces do more than adorn the cover — they tell a deeper story. A story of design innovation, international vision, and the transformative power of collaboration. They reflect a return to expressive forms, luxurious materials, and spaces that invite connection.
This year’s cover stands as a curated snapshot of what’s next in global design — bold, elegant, and purposefully crafted. It’s a celebration not just of objects, but of the people and partnerships
