South Africa’s creative spirit takes centre stage at Decorex Cape Town 2025 with the launch of New Reflections, the 100% Design Local Pavilion—a curated celebration of design talent that reflects the future of local creativity. Taking place at the CTICC from 5 to 8 June, this year’s edition brings together top-tier designers, groundbreaking collaborations, and never-before-seen collections.

Curated by Decorex Africa Creative Directors Garreth van Niekerk and Alan Hayward, New Reflections is a bold and inspiring platform that showcases new work, product debuts, and exciting partnerships that blend heritage with innovation.

Lighting the Way: Sculptural Statements and New Icons

From Johannesburg, Mash.T Design Studio arrives in Cape Town with major momentum. Internationally celebrated and permanently featured in Paris’s Musée des Arts Décoratifs and Centre Pompidou, Thabisa Mjo‘s latest creation—the Smiley Pendant—continues her legacy of reimagining the everyday with an artistic twist.

Greg Marshall Design introduces the Node Pendant, a striking brass and ceramic light fixture that blurs the line between engineering and art. Known for his bespoke lighting across Africa’s finest wine estates and lodges, this new release is set to capture attention at the pavilion.

Textiles with Soul and Substance

Stuart Graham Fabrics presents a broad new range of locally produced and internationally sourced textiles, while African Jacquard launches the Kelp Forest Collection, including a SeaCell™ and linen blanket that embodies the intersection of nature and innovation. They’ll also reveal the Outdoor Kuba Collection, marking their move into boutique outdoor fabrics inspired by traditional Congolese design.

House of Harhaz, founded by Zahrah Moosa, unveils a limited-edition range of mood-rich textiles and handcrafted furniture inspired by nostalgia and refined through skilled craftsmanship.

Collaboration Meets Craft

One of the most talked-about launches at the pavilion is the collaboration between Curación Collection and UNI FORM. Their project, Silhouettes in Dialogue, pairs Curación’s Clifton in Balance furniture with UNI FORM’s signature fashion elements—creating collectible design pieces that straddle the line between fashion and furniture.

Clout/SA celebrates 10 years of the Nando’s Hot Young Designer (HYD) programme with a showcase of its first woven upholstery fabric collection. Featuring designs by Thandazani Nofingxana, Spamandla Mdunyelwa, Lesego Maloko and Xolela Madlanga, these pieces will be upholstered on the widely popular school chair by Naturalis—a global design hit that supports young designers through royalties.

Furniture, Interiors and Functional Art

The Mood Collectives unveil their newest Scandi occasional chairs, paired with luxe accents and a limited-edition Electric Blue coat stand. Visitors can engage with their design team and enter a giveaway to win an original designer handbag.

Ananta Design Studio, led by sisters Viveka and Rucita Vassen, continues to turn heads with playful, craft-forward furniture. This year, they showcase the Klopse Blomme Chair and new beaded vases that highlight their passion for traditional techniques and creative communities.

TheUrbanative, founded by Mpho Vackier, brings a Joburg-meets-heritage vibe to the Cape Town pavilion, telling contemporary African stories through furniture and interiors.

Finally, Vitalli., founded by Ryan Olivier, introduces pieces like the AKKA Side Table and KARA Bench—beautifully raw furniture that blends structure with emotion, permanence with transformation.

Indigenus: Where Nature Meets Sculpture

Cape Town-based Indigenus presents the official launch of Petra, a striking new planter range by New York artist Fernando Mastrangelo. Known for his conceptual, ecological designs, Mastrangelo adds a global voice to the local showcase, joining previous Indigenus collaborators like Sebastian Herkner and Haldane Martin.

A Vision for the Future

“This showcase reflects on where we’ve come from and where we’re headed, exploring themes of democracy in design, material innovation and creative collaboration,” says curator Garreth van Niekerk.

New Reflections offers not just a snapshot of South African design today—but a forward-thinking vision of what’s to come. It’s bold, inclusive, and rooted deeply in culture, collaboration and craft.
