Jenson Button’s Calabasas, California, home
Taking pole position in the style race, F1 driver Jenson Button’s Calabasas, California, home is a study in calm, elegant interiors.
Designed by the racing driver’s wife, interior designer Brittny Button, the home is an “ode to the rugged beauty of the Californian landscape”.
“The expansive property is surrounded by mature trees which makes the estate feel like a hidden treasure that’s been found,” explains Brittny.
“It’s situated in close proximity to Malibu, yet is sheltered from the bustle of Los Angeles.”
The couple bought the property, built in 1984, in 2021.
“It had gone into a kind of hibernation,” says Brittny. “I called it a Grey Gardens look but despite this, I still fell in love [because] I’m obsessed with 1920s and ’30s architecture and could see the potential underneath.”
The expansive double-story home offered the new owners six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a four-car garage, parking for 10 vehicles, an in-ground pool, heated spa, plus a separate gym and servants’ quarters.
Plenty of space for Brittny to work with.
But, for the Buttons it wasn’t about glitz and glam, instead, Brittny focused on creating a soothing space the entire family could enjoy.
“We both didn’t want the furnishings to be so precious that our toddler-aged children couldn’t climb and live on [them],” she explains. “My main aim was to cultivate a modern, organic aesthetic that felt sophisticated, calm and accessible. Nothing is meant to be too precious, yet it still gives off a luxurious look.”
Before Brittny could start moving in furniture, though, the house had to undergo some renovations to open it up and increase the amount of natural light. Then came the natural finishes and organic-shaped or gently curvaceous furnishings, all in the same tonal-white-and-creamy-neutral colour palette.
The result? An elegant and inviting home beautifully crafted by Brittny for her family. “Jenson gave me complete creative freedom,” she says. “If it were up to him, we would have a car hanging from the ceiling. Can you imagine?” she laughs.
