Louis Vuitton Claridge’s
A sparkling reminder of the season, Claridge’s larger-than-life-sized Christmas tree is also an ode to luxury travel this year.
Unveiled in the hotel’s lobby a few days ago, this year’s tree is designed by Parisian fashion house Louis Vuitton – a quite fitting collaboration indeed as the design house started off as a trunk maker in 1854.
Since then countless trunks, suitcases and hat boxes emblazoned with the house’s iconic emblem have, of course, been shuffled through the doors of the equally iconic hotel.
This year’s five-metre-tall display includes a giant version of the Louis Vuitton trunk in signature monogram adorned with Claridge’s travel stickers (Gaston-Louis Vuitton was an avid collector of hotel stickers) that open up to reveal multiple sparkly chrome trunks stacked in the shape of a Christmas tree.
To this, Louis Vuitton added 21 examples of its “mascot” Vivienne, a keepsake doll introduced in 2018, including a Father Christmas version, as well as miniature trunks – all covered in a fine dusting of snow.
Taking pride of place at the top of the tree, a model of Asnières, the historic home of the Louis Vuitton family and atelier where the first travel trunk was created, rests.
‘[This year’s Claridge’s Christmas tree] is by our legendary friends at Louis Vuitton,’ says Claridge’s general manager Paul Jackson. ‘Christmas is the most magical time for us here at the hotel and we look forward to welcoming guests and seeing visitors immerse themselves in Louis Vuitton’s world.’
