The award entry
The Flower of Life interior design project shows Kim Williams Design’s unwavering attention to detail and is a vision of timeless elegance.
When the owner decided to build her dream home to usher in a new chapter of her life post-divorce, she purchased a Victorian style ‘plot and plan’ home which was outdated and needed a complete re-invention to mirror the transformation of its new owner.
The client’s favourite concept, the Flower of Life – believed to be the basic template for life – symbolised creation and unity, was used to tell the story of her very own “new beginning”. The home truly reflects the transformative journey of the owner’s re-invention and has been beautifully re-imagined by Kim Williams in every detail and practical use of design and space.
Global recognition
This is not the first recognition achieved by the Kim Williams Design Studio. Their work titled Organic Harmony for Enamel Dentistry – the first aesthetic and constructive dental clinic in Africa – achieved five accolades including four honourable mentions in the USA International Design Awards (IDA), 2022 in the following categories: Interior Design/Renovation; Interior Design/Commercial; Architecture Categories/Renovation; and in the Architecture Category/Commercial Building. The fifth recognition was as a finalist at the prestigious Loeries Awards Africa and Middle East 2022 in the Design category – subcategory Interior Design.
Speaking about the awards Kim Williams says, “I am humbled by the selection of our studio and designs by global industry professionals; these awards not only elevate our reputation in the industry but are a testament to the uniqueness of design emanating out of South Africa.
I believe that the work we are doing in interiors is innovative, thought provoking and mirrors the stories of the designers and the people we work for. It is not homogenous in any way, nor is it a cut and paste of what the rest of the world is doing. It is original and will continue to be as we marry culture with craft.”
