Studio MHNA: Moofushi Resort

Discover paradise with Constance Hotels & Resorts and Studio MHNA. The studio recently renovated the interiors of Moofushi Resort in the Maldives and we got to take a sneak peek.

A revived ambience

Continuing their collaboration with Constance Hotels & Resorts, Studio MHNA has renovated the interiors of the new Moofushi Resort which is established on the beautiful Maldivian island of the same name.

With a new and revived ambience, the hotel feels closer to nature and champions the resort’s heavenly setting. Using bold tones and audacious materials, Studio MHNA’s novel design is a signature concept of co-founders Marc Hertrich and Nicolas Adnet.

Reminiscent of Daniel Defoe’s novel, Robinson Crusoe, guests exploring the hotel will go on a stunning journey from the reception area to the villas, discovering unique spaces at every turn.

The interior design is inspired by the surrounding landscape, the ocean’s endless shades of blue, the fine sandy beaches, and the lush vegetation. Each space is punctuated with exceptional craftsmanship, raw materials, and contemporary or vintage decorative objects.

A fresh new colour palette

With turquoise selected as Moofushi’s new signature colour, the palette is simple and pure and has been subtly infused throughout the rooms, on pillowcases and cushions. The walls are adorned with lush botanical motifs that seem almost sculpted directly into the material. The bedroom headboards – and most of the interior – is made of light wood, and the lampshades of rattan. Doors open onto a terrace that enhances the feeling of being at one with nature, a “fisherman’s hut” atmosphere in the most luxurious of suites

The organic shapes of the furniture featured in the reception area are carved from logs. The bar now sports a cosy and warm atmosphere based around the theme of wine and vineyards. Barrels and cases of wine are stacked haphazardly at the foot of the pillars, showcasing a striking design initiative from Studio MHNA. Their eclectic choice of furniture and artistic objects creates a sense of conviviality, as does the lounge’s large communal table, the perfect place to enjoy a meal, a conversation, and a variety of wines. The library is an invitation to rest and discover books on wine, the island’s fauna, and all the treasures that the Maldives have to offer.

Hanging over the main restaurant is a large chandelier featuring garlands of corks, a nod to the bar and the central wine cellar. The decor is marked by the spirit of exploration, hallmark of the trading posts of past centuries. Large seashells, metal boxes, wooden sailboats and toys form a collection of curios that give life to the room and the cross-frame chairs are inspired by Indian designs, lending new comfort to the grand dining room.

A relaxed space for guests

For a last-minute meal or impromptu snack, Studio MHNA has recreated a rustic food truck, Robinson Crusoe-style, with planks of wood and sheets of metal. In the shade of the bamboo pergolas, wicker chairs and couches made from wood pallets are sheathed in fun and colourful fabrics, offering a more relaxing environment for guests to enjoy outside.

The quirky, off-beat entertainment lounge is characterized by whitewashed bricks, splashes of paint, neon lights hanging from the walls, couches made to look like old mattresses, club chairs, pillow-filled corner beds, and industrial lamps. All these elements come together to blend the vivacity of an old warehouse with a modern, contemporary clubhouse ambience

The spa now features a more organic reception desk. The style here brings a sense of calm and relaxation in neutral tones peppered with touches of black and white. A minimalism that uses with the warmth of the wood to create a soft and welcoming atmosphere.

The majestic swimming pool area has been stylishly decorated in harmony with the rooms’ terraces. For greater comfort, a new set of traditional gazebos can be found around the pool and on the neighbouring beach

Furthermore, the beach bar has been transformed with a “painted and repainted” style using a pastel palette. With a bohemian breeze blowing through the Maldives and the Moofushi Resort, the Seashell garlands, wooden floats, and Adirondack chairs bring a poetic charm to the setting.

On the sunset jetty, a variety of seating arrangements, such as an expansive day bed, offers new ways to relax and enjoy the sunset over the vast Indian Ocean.
