Celebrity Homes: A Home For Supermodel Elle Macpherson
Today we’re heading over to sunny Florida, USA, to take a look inside the beautiful home of supermodel Elle Macpherson.
For this Australian-born beauty, a home in Florida gave her the opportunity to create a special retreat. Although she has worked on the design and construction of numerous houses in the USA, this Florida home gave Elle the chance to take a different approach than her previous efforts.
This home took on a more sustainable approach – using what you already have and repurposing it for a new life.
An Art-filled Home
Elle has always shared a real passion for art. From a young age, she began to take an interest in the art scene. She was given the advice to buy the art of her contemporaries because that would speak to her cultural language. And that is exactly what she did.
An avid art collector, Elle was sure to create a home filled with her many collections. Some of her collections are by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Prince, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, Lucian Freud, Damien Hirst, and other titans of 20th- and 21st-century art.
Originally, Elle had her sights on securing a classic mid-century styled home. However, her journey brought her to this beautiful Normandy-inspired house designed by architect Chad Oppenheim. The property features massive live oaks together with lemon, orange, and mango trees and an organic vegetable garden.
Elle relied on the design prowess of Brian Sawyer of the New York City–based AD100 architecture, interiors, and landscape firm Sawyer | Berson. In an interview with Architectural Digest, Brian explains, “Our job was to create a look and lifestyle that recognized the family’s history of living in London for 17 years along with the boys’ French heritage and their mother’s Australian irreverence.”
“I wanted the house to feel effortless, eclectic, and fun, with no pretension. But it still had to feel considered. Less is more, but it can also be more challenging. It requires discipline and editing,” Macpherson says of the decorative balancing act.
