VINTAGE PATCHWORK KANTHA QUILT
A handmade quilt made from vintage Indian saris and dhotis. Kantha is a prominent form of embroidery consisting of running stitches, and is often practiced by rural women in east Asia, especially in India and Bangladesh. Vintage Kantha quilts are produced with 2-3 layers recycled of vintage saris, and sometimes dhotis. These layers are covered with the kantha stitches and sometimes embellished with more embroidery. The origin of kantha quilts can be traced to some very resourceful women centuries ago who up-cycled parts of their old cotton saris and dhotis to make much needed blankets.
