TIBBO: The Beauty of Hand-Turned Wood
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby conceived TIBBO for an era in which indoor and outdoor living spaces are merging. A full collection of lounge and dining elements, TIBBO combines the luxurious comfort of the finest indoor furniture with the lightness required for easy repositioning on the terrace, in the garden, or around the pool.
“We believe people are increasingly living in spaces where outdoors and indoors are separated only by a piece of glass, so we saw an opportunity to design outdoor furniture with the same sensibility we would apply to a range used indoors.” — Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby
Barber and Osgerby took their initial inspiration for TIBBO from the wood itself. All of the teak used for TIBBO’s frame has been meticulously turned by hand. As the designers note, turned wood has a tactile quality like no other. Because of the oily nature of teak, its handfeel is especially soft.
With TIBBO, Barber and Osgerby decided to accentuate these properties. While most outdoor teak furniture looks, in their words, “very rectangular and uncomfortable,” every element of the TIBBO collection has been designed to be “as soft and tactile as possible.”
This collection is now available locally through agents, Cane Time.
