Mike Bouwer

Here is what he had to share:

How would you describe your personal style?

Creating modern working spaces is always my goal.

What qualities define your brand?

S&J office furniture has been creating space efficient, up market office interiors for over 30 years. The brand is known for unique design and quality manufacturing.

What sets your brand apart in the industry at the moment?

We have just launched an industry first website. The website is the only office furniture website to show our entire range and is the first in the industry to show prices for the full range. We are also importers of exclusive desking and chair ranges.

What is the most recent purchase you’ve made for your home and why?

A swimming pool, for the kids, obviously!

What one design element, trend or furniture item can you not live without?

My height adjustable desk. The industry is focusing on individual wellness and a Sit Stand desk is the first requirement to office wellbeing.

What design influence has had the greatest influence on your work and business?

Collaboration, the trend in offices to work in various areas of the office. As a supplier the trend of privacy booths and casual meeting areas is influencing more projects daily.

What has been one of the most challenging projects you have worked on?

Areyeng Head Office, – the bus depot in Pretoria Central. The project is featured in our gallery at www.sjoffice.co.za.

How would you describe the design industry in South Africa at present?

Office design is doing very well. At S&J we see daily the desire from clients to create spaces that will allow employees to thrive. Gone are the days where staff were made to sit in squashed open plan areas.

What trends do you think we should keep an eye on in upcoming seasons?

Office design is evolving to bring more home elements and relaxing elements into the design.

What exciting projects do you have planned within the next year?

For the first time in years, we have several potential projects due for early next year. Should all go to plan it will be a great 2020!
