Spotlight: Créma Design

As in any creative industry, interior design trends come and go. If you are redecorating your home, you may want to look ahead to the next trends, instead of decorating with what’s current, which could go out of style at any minute. A home that is both good looking, and reflects your knowledge of the zeitgeist, is the goal of Crema Design.

The unique Créma Design collection showcases the world’s best indoor and outdoor luxury furniture, feature lighting, hand made carpets, office furniture and a broad range of accessories. Their showroom in Woodstock, Cape Town is now open and here you will find an exclusive collection of furniture and accessories to stay abreast of the latest design trends.

With that in mind, here are a few ways to stay ahead of interior design game.

Know Your Location

Certain locations, such as Hong Kong, New York City or Cape Town, are usually full of many trend setters. If you live out in suburbia (which is often a few years behind fresh city trends), look at what is currently popular in these cities and consider decorating your home accordingly. Take a look at images of contemporary homes in fashionable areas and pick out consistent themes that you might wish to incorporate into your home.

Look At Fashion

Often, trends are produced a bit faster in the fashion industry than in the interior design industry. Look at what colours, patterns, fabrics, and styles are on trend in the fashion world and incorporate those into your home decor. Take a walk through areas frequented by fashionistas, or by people dressed in ways you’re interested in.

Timeless Decor

If you are not interested in constantly updating your home to be on trend, you’re probably already considering using timeless decor in your home. Typically a traditional style is more timeless than contemporary or transitional styles.

Simple, natural, and clean are almost always in style. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with avoiding new and flashy and going for tried and true.

You can also go with a vintage style, such as mid century modern, or even an antique style from over 100 years ago.

Set Your Own Trends

Instead of taking inspiration from other people and trying to keep up with the Joneses, why not set your own trends? Look at what you like, scroll through your own Instagram feed and be unique.

  • Be creative.
  • Do what makes you happy.
  • Use non-traditional colours.
  • Use one-of-a-kind items.
  • Avoid mass produced items from chain stores – or don’t!

Make your home look like you – showcase your interests, travels, and heritage. The space you occupy should reflect who you are, and above all it should make you happy.

Crema Design showrooms exhibit the exclusive collections of Tom Dixon, Lee Broom, Vitra, Magis, Foscarini, Diesel with Foscarini, HAY, Gubi, OFFECCT, Nanimarquina, Extremis, Cherner, STUA, Brokis, Muuto and &Tradition.
