Sonny Vriends (30) and Marcelle Mudde (29) moved from Amsterdam to Cape Town in the beginning of 2016, to follow their dreams. They took over the existing all-round marketing agency Label Orange that is organising the Restaurant Week South Africa and only focusing on the top 150 best restaurants of South Africa.
New adventures Full-time sun and road trips with amazing views was something Sonny and Marcelle dreamed of when they lived in Amsterdam. You could say that they already had a nice life there, but they wanted something different. Marcelle has worked in the media industry for 6 years for magazines like ELLE and Glamour and Sonny has a background in sales. After years of working in the Netherlands, they thought it was time for a new adventure and wanted to learn new things. Marcelle: “Cape Town has something magical: the combination of often everyday sunshine, mountains, beautiful beaches, nice people and the best dinners I’ve ever had in my life – which are the main reasons for this new adventure. We knew the former owners of Label Orange from our work in the Netherlands and they thought it was time to go back, so we took over. One of the things I’ve learned is to always share your dreams; lots of people can help if you don’t stop talking about it.” Sonny: “I had never been to Cape Town before this; there are so many possibilities here and that motivates me to work everyday to learn and grow. When you are out of your comfort zone, you will only grow more, because you have more time to really look at yourself and more time to work on your personal goals.” Label Orange Agency: an all-round marketing agency for Dutch and South African brands, concepts and events. Label Orange works currently for Fromanteel (Dutch watch brand) and Restaurant Week South Africa. It’s an international culinary event that has started in the late 1990s. It’s being organised around the globe (New York, Amsterdam, Italy, China etc.) and this is the fifth time it takes place in South Africa, this October (20 oct – 30 oct). Sonny: “The duration of the Restaurant Week project is three months per edition (2 editions per year, an Autumn and Spring Edition). It’s really great to see how this event has grow in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, the Winelands and Durban. For restaurants, it is a great event to show what their restaurant is all about and to attract new guests. For guests it is a great event to enjoy a special lunch or dinner with friends/family and to discover top restaurants at a great price.” Restaurant Week Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to explore new restaurants at a great price. During the Spring Edition of Restaurant Week South Africa, (20 oct – 30 oct) 150 top restaurants offer an amazing special for guests who book online. Lots of people can name one or two restaurants that they would really like to dine at but have never had the chance to – this can be a new restaurant, an established restaurant or a restaurant that’s usually too expensive. Restaurant Week is basically a great excuse to visit that restaurant that has always been on your list, but without spending a huge chunk of your salary. Marcelle: “We have teamed up with partners like KLM, Karoo Water, Strongbow and Streetsmart. It’s great to work together with such beautiful brands in making this Restaurant Week a huge success.” Do you want to know more about the Restaurant Week South Africa Spring edition? Sonny & Marcelle will be sharing their favourite participating restaurants in the next few weeks as well as access to a special VIP code to book in advance (for the 26th of September instead of the 30th of September).
