Annie Sloan’s Room Recipes for Style and Colour

After publishing more than 20 best-selling books focusing on decorative painting, Annie Sloan has written her first book based on interior design. Coauthored by her son Felix- who is also a designer and the Brand Director of Annie Sloan Interiors- the comprehensive book examines nine popular styles including Bohemian, Neoclassical, Vintage Floral, French Elegance, Traditional Swedish, Coastal, Rustic Country, Modern Retro and Warehouse. Anna-Sloan1 The book features hundreds of gorgeous images showcasing homes of selected design enthusiasts and professional designers across Europe. There are also “Pain Your Own” ideas and sketches, as well as mood boards and a host of practical tips on how to achieve each look in one’s own home. Annie Sloan says: “I chose interior design as the subject for my latest book because we frequently hear that people just can’t get things to look right in their own interiors. I believe this is because they need to really think about what their own personal style is, rather than be swayed by the latest trend. This style can range from anything from Bohemian to Modern Retro, but importantly, realise that most tastes are a fusion of many styles.” Annie Sloan continues: “Secondly, it is important understand the style of the property you are working with, an extensive Swedish style renovation might not work in a Victorian house, for example, but taking elements of Swedish style might, if that is your preference. It has been wonderful to work with my son on this book. We have similar tastes, but my approach from a Fine Art background obviously differs from Felix’s background in Graphic Design and this, combined with the synthesis of both our generations, means that we are always learning from one another and inspiring each other.” Felix Sloan says: “What we have set out to achieve is not to produce a definitive rule book on a number of styles, but to explain a little bit about each of the popular ones and show how it is possible to work with a number of those successfully, without slavishly keeping to just one. We are all eclectic and have various bits of furniture that we need to incorporate in our homes. We very much believe in avoiding style clichés, Coastal style doesn’t need to be all about seashells for example! If you love Neoclassical you might think it is not possible to replicate this look in your home and you would probably be right, but we show you how to incorporate elements of that, and many other, styles.” Room Recipes for Style and Colour will be available in bookstores and at Annie Sloan stockists end of November and will retail at R499.00. All Stockists worldwide are listed on the website. annie-sloan2 annie-sloan3 annie-sloan4 annie-sloan-design Visit:
