Arte S Chooses Artistic Flowcrete Flooring Design to Mirror Architecture

The luxurious residential complex Arte S required a decorative and eye-catching design for its lobby and unique PODs that reflected its distinguishing exterior and called upon Flowcrete Asia’s expertise to help.

Being the first of its kind to be built, Arte S is set to change the skyline of Penang with its architectural brilliance, comprising of 480 units of extravagance and style. The complex includes a lifestyle structure on the 35th floor, with an entertainment space for residents to entertain guests. The small POD in this area also contains the world’s first ‘hanging’ Jacuzzi, which is sure to make a unique and interesting talking point.

Climbing to 49 storeys, Arte S is the tallest building on the island and offers spectacular ocean views or jungle-covered mountain vistas to residents staying on its upper levels. Each storey of the complex is different, thanks to its ‘rotating fin geometry’, generating a wavy visual on the external construction. With such remarkable panoramic scenes and impressive feats of architecture, the interior design needed to reflect the exterior and the idyllic flooring solutions from Flowcrete Asia were chosen to accomplish this.

With the aim of replacing reality with fantasy, bright colours were chosen for the lobby flooring to beautifully complement the lavish building design and the colourful furniture. This was achieved with 382 m2 of Flowtex PT, coated with the self-smoothing epoxy resin Flowshield SL 1000 in Steel Grey and striking pink hues.

The heavy duty Flowtex PT is a power trowelled epoxy screed that is suitable to receive a variety of decorative, hardwearing floor finishes. With product benefits including high impact resistance and minimising undulation, this underlayment is ideal for areas that are subject to high traffic and impacts.

For continuation, the innovative and unique PODs located on the 36th and 37th floor were decorated using the same flooring systems as the lobby in the same colour variations.

The seamlessness of Flowshield SL 1000 makes the floor much easier to clean as dirt cannot hide in joints, whilst its abrasion resistance maintains the floors aesthetic in the face of the footfall, scuffs and scrapes that can be expected in busy lobby and communal areas.

Deckshield UV Linemarker was utilised to generate a free form geometry design that reflected the shapes used in the architecture of the lobby walls. As well as creating a modern visual, these crisp white lines cleanly separated the contrasting hot pink and grey hues.

For the stairways, 14 m2 of the solvent-based polyurethane floor sealer with a satin finish, Flowseal UV Satin was used, providing abrasion resistance as well as being easy to clean and maintain.

The floor’s colour would also be protected against prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV-rays, thanks to the UV stable properties of both Flowseal UV and Deckshield UV Linemarker. With glass windows being a large part of the architecture of the building, this was incredibly important in both the lobby and the PODs.

The flooring project was completed within only 15 days and the complex was able to welcome residents and guests to explore the newly decorated spaces right on schedule.
