Taking the decor world by storm, Velvet is the new “it” fabric says Tessa Sonik
Fabric aficionado Tessa Sonik explains how the striking velvet trend can be easily achieved.
Tessa Sonik is renowned for her forward-thinking approach and ability to pinpoint exactly which trend works beautifully in the home. A long-standing symbol of luxury and character, velvet has been seen on the runway and in interiors lately and we love the concept of a decadent and character-rich fabric that is versatile and beautiful.
Tessa had the following to say:
Velvet is huge in 2017, in your opinion, what makes this luxe trend versatile in the home?
Tessa: Velvets are very user friendly today. as well as affordable and easy to wear on furniture due to their composition.
How can one successfully incorporate this trend in their home?
Tessa: Velvets are luxurious and give a feeling of sophistication to the home. The best way to incorporate this trend is on couches and special classic chairs. In addition, modern cleaner-lined furniture allows for a softer edge. Accent cushions are great in strong cotton velvet color such as the crazy pink trend happening at the moment.
Velvet can be quite heavy in interiors, what is the best way to break some of the plushness?
Tessa: Velvets are amazing when mixed with linens and cottons and other cooler textures creating a mix of the same colour in different textures.
Which is your personal velvet favourite in your range?
Tessa: We have a range of velvets in fifty colours. My personal favourite this season is from our Arthur range, which is a vintage velvet finish in teal.
How does one keep velvet fabrics clean?
Tessa: This all depends on the composition of the fabric. A velvet of 100% polyester is machine washable whereas cotton velvets need a much gentler clean. Mixed compositions that include viscose are more tricky as liquid leaves marks. We can recommend the best composition for your needs upon consultation. The sheer decadence of velvet has us swooning.
