friends & family pop-up shop this November

Douglas & Company is setting up shop in Cape Town for one November only. Titled ‘Friends & Family’, the shop celebrates contemporary South African design and is a one stop emporium for local design products, furniture, and objects d’art. Hosted by design studio Douglas & Company, the shop showcases covetable items from a range of contributors including limited edition silk scarves by L’mad Collection, illustrations by Lu West Studio and Renee Rossouw Studio, interior products by Damn Good Looking and a selection of local design printed matter including the last few copies of Paternoster chef Kobus van der Merwe’s West Coast odyssey, Strandveldfood. Interior items include limited editions and unique one off pieces, with many of the products not available in any other retail spaces, so early birds will have the pick of the best. Liani Douglas of Douglas & Company says “We are using the retail platform to boost and support the work of likeminded local designers. The selection started by including family and friends doing interesting work, but quickly evolved into making new friendships with a larger network of local designers that produce items that are not available in many other retail outlets. The power of Friends & Family lies in the collective offering a unique and truly local design retail experience – just in time for Christmas shopping! We are also very excited to showcase our current furniture and product collection, as these have not been available in a local retail space to date.”

Douglas & Company, specialists in the design and production of contemporary spaces, furniture, lighting and objects, are the latest tenants to move into the CCDI Pop-up Shop on Long Street.

The CCDI store, which is located on the corner of Long and Leeuwen Streets, is being made available to small creative businesses on a rotating basis during this year to give them a taste of what it’s like to operate in a retail environment. Each month, a new tenant moves into the space where they have the chance to transform it into a unique and attractive store that will invite potential clients to buy their specific products, and they can use the experience to help them to grow as entrepreneurs.
