Wanda-Michelle Interiors: Tips To Make Your Home Luxuriously Warm This Winter

The morning and evening temperatures are already dropping in sunny South Africa, with the first chills, giving rise to the desire to get your home ready for a luxuriously warm winter. We asked the team from Wanda Michelle Interiors (WMI) to share some valuable assistance in creating a luxurious and warm interior this season.

It’s always a good idea to get going on these changes once the first chill hits, so that your home will be a warm haven that welcomes you in out of the cold with an invitation that is unmistakably warm.

Here are a few tips that may help to winter-proof your home:

Throws for Africa

Considering the interior décor you already have in place, adding warmth with beautiful throws in your favourite colours to complement the décor and furniture in your home is an easy step to take.

Choose high quality throws for maximum warmth so that they’re always on hand when friends and family get together to catch up on their favourite shows or movies.

Your favourite corner for reading or catching up on emails will be even more welcoming if throws are within easy reach.

If you would prefer to keep blankets and throws tucked away but within easy reach, add something stunning and innovative to store them in, whether it’s a woven basket or a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind holder for blankets.

Keeping your feet warm

If you don’t have underfloor heating but have stunning tiles, wood or marble floors, they’re going to add an extra chill that won’t bring comfort to your feet this winter.

To make the beautiful floors in your home foot-friendly anywhere they’ll need it is as simple as adding attractive rugs in all the right places, in colours that match your décor seamlessly.

An invitingly warm bedroom

Your bedroom is the place you retreat to after spending a day out in the hectic pace of the world, and it needs to be a warm and soothing retreat that will make recharging truly heavenly.

Those beautiful white pure cotton percale sheets will have to make way for something that will keep you warm but not cause night sweats. Much as our summer wardrobe gives way to the winter one, changing your bedding to meet the cold is always a good idea.

Keep flannel, silk or fleece sheets in mind when you go shopping for winter sheets. Luxurious silk sounds a bit strange considering how thin it is, but it’s actually a material that keeps the warmth in and the chill out. Flannel, with its softness, is a great choice for winter, making the cross between fleece and cotton an airy addition to your bed that won’t make you break out into a sweat!

Of course the warmest of the lot is fabulous fleece, offering absolute warmth and reaching a comfort level like no other, so that even if you’re in a part of South Africa that hits sub-zero temperatures, you’ll snuggle into the blissful warmth of your bed.

If you’re looking for a duvet that settles lightly around you and is still incredibly cosy, then Hungarian goose down or one that’s a mixture of feather and down is a great choice.

If you struggle with allergies and can’t sleep under feather heaven, there are great options on the market that are just as warm and luxurious, wool is a great substitute. You can buy these duvets in different weights and they beat synthetic duvets hands down!

On a last note: remember to get a bit of fresh air into the room by opening the windows for half an hour or so during the day to allow natural light to add more to the comfort level.

Adding winter warmth to the bathroom

Stepping into a warm shower or soaking in the bath for hours is something we all love, but without extra touches of warmth it’s really unpleasant to step out of the luxurious shower or bath into bitingly cold air.

If you’ve got beautiful tile or marble floors, a luxuriously warm, extra-large bath mat to keep your feet warm as you step out of the tub is a great first start. Go the extra mile for sheer comfort and install a heated towel rail, heating lamps that give instant heat from above, a wall heat bank or underfloor heating to take comfort in the bathroom to a new level.

The glow of winter warmth

We’re sure the lighting in your home is already stylish and luxurious but believe it or not, scented candles will also make a big difference to lighting in terms of warming up any space you’re in.  Choose the scents you love and settle in to soak up the warm glow and fragrance that will enhance the style and beauty of the space you’re in.

Fireplaces are fundamental to warming up your home and the options in style and material are virtually limitless today. Gone are the days of stoking up a fire only to have the smoke coming in instead of out because you forgot to call in the chimney sweep!

Insulated windows will also go a long way to warming up your home, no matter how cold it is outside it’ll stay warm inside.

Last, but not least, if you’re planning on building a new home, doing renovations or changing the interior décor in any space in the home, the team at Wanda-Michelle Interiors have 20 years’ worth of experience to bring to the table, and use every bit of that experience to deliver a final product that exceeds expectations.

Their signature style is one that reflects innovation, creativity, style and sophistication, which has in turn lead to the formation of long-term relationships with the bulk of clients, which is the ultimate prize for their passionate design team.
