House Tour: Former miner’s cottage
There’s something instinctively romantic about a subdued and rich selection of hues. Specially what comes to mind is the colour brown, patterned by greys and off whites to create a story of stillness and serenity. This holiday home, which also happens to be a former miner’s cottage is pretty set on the colour palette in a subtle but striking visual identity. The brass, copper and wood that appear in the furniture, window shutters, couch and fireplace highlight the rest of the interior layout, by letting it wind down with softer more gentler moments in the bedding, bathroom and painted wooden doors. Set in an acre of land with views over Wombat State Forest and Doctors Gully, the 1860’s miner’s cottage has been beautifully restored to it’s former glory by owner, interior designer Kali Cavanagh. The garden room has been decorated in shades of white, black and everything in between and furnished with a blend of antique, vintage and industrial pieces.
