Headed by Mark Rielly, Jon Case & Michele Rhoda and a skilled team of designers and decorators, Antoni Associates prides itself on its dedication to dynamic contemporary design, sound technical knowledge, advanced computer skills and a design finesse. Antoni Associates recently completed a magnificent Winelands residence in the heart of Stellenbosch. Located in the epicenter of the vineyards and wine farms, the setting boasts a modern twist on the traditional “Cape Dutch” styled home. The clients’ brief was to ensure that the house would not be overly elaborate, too large or too empty. Therefore, a decision was made to keep all the entertainment areas as well as the master bedroom on the ground floor. In order to create a modern farmhouse which incorporates an array of glamorous elements, emphasising “barefoot luxury” and a use of natural resources, AA opted for an original design approach. Noteworthy features of this innovative living space include the central courtyard and “Languis,” designed for both formal and informal lounging. Not to mention the bespoke wine cellar that celebrates the home-owners’ love of hospitality. The oak timber cabinetry encases frameless glass shelving that can house more than 400 bottles, perfectly temperature-controlled with concealed refrigeration. Mark Rielly and Jon Case focused on a use of natural organic materials for the interior, such as timber and stone. Limed oak flooring paired with honey coloured stone walls contrast with black charcoals and chalky white finishes. These tactile materials establish a sense of homeliness and warmth within the contemporary architecture. Mark explains: “This house is unique in its detail and quality of finish and reflects a living environment that is seductive and inspired by family living.” A combination of bold and discreet lighting was used to create the final “wow” factor, setting the mood with an array of layered lighting options. Subtle lighting has been incorporated in all recesses, featuring bulkheads to give a warm glow to peripheral edges. Concealed lighting has also been used to highlight and accentuate the organic natural finishes. The interior furniture and décor, designed by Mark Rielly and Sarika Jacobs of AA Interiors, is modern and complementary to the experience of the home space. Tactile finishes including timber, textured leathers and raw linens add a sophisticated sense of understated luxury. The clients’ love for colour has been integrated with injections of bold prints and vibrant fabrics. Bespoke furniture from OKHA Interiors is featured throughout. Visit: www.aainteriors.co.za
