Spotlight: The JJ Dempers Group

Situated in Paarl, Western Cape, the  Dempers Group is a family-run group of companies specialising in construction, rentals, joinery and more. What was started by one man and his two sons, today celebrates the third generation of the Dempers family who is still involved with the management of the companies.

Construction:

J.J. Dempers (Pty) Ltd is a Construction Company registered as Master Builders and a member of the Boland Master Builders Association (MBA). They provide a full range of construction services with multi disciplinary capabilities and expertise. The company further specializes in the building of upmarket residential dwellings and the construction of a diverse assortment of commercial and industrial buildings. They cover a vast spectrum of construction related activities in the Boland and surrounding regions. J.J Dempers are also active with various property developments. Other niche markets consist of the construction of agricultural related buildings and healthcare facilities. Throughout the years, the company has proven its worth through quality craftsmanship and their reputation speaks for itself.

Rentals:

J.J. Dempers & Seuns (Pty) Ltd specialises in property rentals and property development. Oom Japie, with his two sons, Johann and Philip, contributed to the success of the group of companies. Through the years, after the establishment of the company, a number of properties have been purchased and developed for leasing.

Western Joiners:

Western Joiners was founded by Mr Kretschmer, who emigrated from West Germany in 1951. From 1951 to 1957 Mr Kretschmer worked as foreman at Protea Timber, where after he started his own joinery and woodworking business called Westelike Skrynwerker (Western Joiners).

The beginnings were humble with a staff of four workers. Mr Kretschmer operated out of the Western Wools building, where they did general joinery work and cupboards for the provincial administration, schools and hospitals.

By 1966 the business grew rapidly and a bigger premises was needed. The business moved to the piano factory. Very soon this premises was outgrown and a decision was made to build a new premises in Versailles Street, Wellington. On the 1st of July 1983, Johann and Philip Dempers bought the company and they then moved to the premises of Paarlse Meubelmakers in Ambachtsvallei Street, Huguenot, Paarl. This is still the current premises. Johann and Philip Dempers kept the trading name and today Western Joiners (Westelike Skrynwerker) is well known throughout the Western Cape for its excellent quality craftsmanship, joinery, woodworking and the production of doors, windows and gates.

Investments:

Sandobel 150 (Pty) Ltd makes up the fourth company within the JJ Dempers Group. This company specialises in Administration and Investments.
