Yellow dot brings excitement to Creative Capital

With the exciting time ahead we’re seeing more and more of this joyful colour popping up around our city to mark the Cape Town World Design Capital! The Yellow Design Dots are appearing on buildings that are supporting and getting ready for this great year! And our WDC Team are getting organised and excited for all there is to come, sharing some up and coming events that are heading our way…  The façade of SAOTA on 109 Hatfield Street is a celebration of yellow and will turn into a free exhibition, showcasing visual content as Cape Town moves into the swing of things.  The Street Museum of Design, SMoD is providing a new platform for art and is encouraging participation from the public. It will host a variety of exhibitions specifically for an African audience as well as invite curators and museums to show selected work highlighting the yearlong theme of contemporary architecture, art and design. As an introduction to the year, the first exhibition “Creative Capital” will begin on 27th Feb and will cover a selection of recognised projects that are on the WDC programme. Share your love for yellow and support these exciting exhibitions heading our way!

The mural painted on SAOTA façade is a collaboration with AM I COLLECTIVE, a Cape Town based Graphic Design and Illustration studio. One of SMoD’s incentives is to establish local and international connections all year long. The artwork is an abstract map of Cape Town, painted in the official colour of the year: yellow. The paintwork was executed by Capital Painters and Billy and Alex, a London based graffiti duo.

The distinctive red of the Clock Tower has been replaced by a bright yellow to signify the implementation of the Cape Town World Design Capital 2014.
