Q: Tell us something about yourself.
A: I was a web designer for 9 years before running my online shop full-time. I started Shanti Décor on the side about a year ago…and today it is my full-time job and passion! I also strongly feel that chocolate should be a food group.
Q: How did you get started? A: I bought some scatter cushion covers overseas 2 years ago, and they didn’t last that long due to inferior stitching. When I wanted to replace them in SA, I found that they were extremely overpriced in the shops, and I wasn’t happy with the quality, and I couldn’t find any online locally. I live in a small town and do most of my shopping online. So the dream of finding these scatter cushion covers and selling them in SA was born. My experience as a web designer obviously helped greatly, as I could build and maintain my own website. Q: How frequently do you go overseas to get stock? A: I would like to go every 6 months, but realistically only once a year has been possible thus far. I’m planning a buying trip in February. I’ve built up wonderful contacts over the globe, so I can order some of the stock as needed. Q: What inspires you? A: Hailing from a design background, I love colour, and intricate designs. I’m inspired by the beauty in everyday life that we all tend to just pass by, life is truly beautiful – once you step back and just soak it all in. Q:Indian Artefacts what makes you purchase them? A: I’m very particular about quality. I only buy neatly made products…all the items being handmade, this has proven to be a challenge at times. And then colour; glorious, wonderful, bright colour 🙂 Q: How is your interior at home? A: I would say it is an eclectic home. My husband and I both love antiques, so we have a few gorgeous pieces, mixed up with some Shanti Décor items of course.
