Create eye-catching surface designs with Quagga, the fabric and wallpaper specialists. Be inspired to transform your interior with the brand’s unique patterns and bespoke options. Rob Tarlton, founder of Quagga, began designing patterns for wallpapers and then decided to translate them into fabrics in the company’s first-ever range “Maginaper.” The name is a portmanteau made up of imagination and paper. Many of the patterns start off as dreamy doodles or are inspired by things close at hand or mind. After undergoing many tweaks and changes, the patterns are set up for rotary screen printing; the designs are then printed on linen- style cotton and every wallpaper is custom printed. Quagga Fabrics and Wallpapers is located in Woodstock, Cape Town (near to the vicinity in Groote Schuur Estate where Quaggas are being “bred back)”. In these original designs, the design house strives to blend classic symmetry with contemporary style. Designs are often composed of abstract shapes and recognisable cultural icons, from cows to lighthouses. Many of the patterns convey a love of local flavour. Quagga also has an Etsy shop with products made from their signature fabrics, offering lampshades, scatter cushions, tea towels, tote bags and placemats. Click here to browse the full range.
