The largest, most important collection of contemporary South African design will launch the new Museum of African Design (MoAD) in a reinvented Art Deco industrial building in the Maboneng Precinct in downtown Johannesburg in October. We are looking forward to witnessing teh beauty of contemprary and classic designs that are local and helping expose South African designers talent. For the first time the 1500m² three level space, which Johannesburg architect Enrico Daffonchio has restored to retain the original Transvaal vernacular of the 30’s, will allow Southern Guild the space to display the design pieces in a way that will give full exposure of the hard work and will allow the viewer to interact completely with each piece.
Running from 24th October till 3 November 2013, the showcase will also include the announcement of the 2013 Southern Guild Design Foundation Awards (SGDF). SGDF, a non profit organization, recognizes, supports and propels the South African Design Industry at both established and emerging levels and the results of the 2012 awards will be presented.
