DESIGNING_SOUTHAFRICA in collaboration with Open Design Cape Town are excited to announce the speakers for the Designing democracy full-day seminar on 29 August at the Cape Town City Hall. As one of the core events in the festival programme, the seminar forms the initial discussion in the DESIGNING our Democracy programme with a speaker line up not to be missed. We cant wait! Those attending the event will be treated to renowned architect Andrew Makin discussing designing identity, while director of the African Centre for Cities Professor Edgar Pieterse and CEO of the SA Cities Network Sithole Mbanga will engage in a discussion about the importance of good design in city making efforts. The seminar will also host Thorsten Deckler, principal of 26’10 south Architects who, through his work in urban design, will talk about social housing and “informality” while the CEO of TB/HIV Care Association, Professor Harry Hausler, with 15 years of international public health experience, will examine opportunities for designing improved healthcare. What a fantastic line up, we are so excited to gain some knowledge and experience. Tickets cost R350 and all proceeds will go to activating the second part of the Designing our Democracy programme, an exhibition to be hosted as a project of the World Design Capital 2014 and during the second edition of Open Design Cape Town next year.
