The first-ever Cobra Design Competition, which called for exciting new cutting-edge and eco-conscious tap and mixer designs, drew to a close on Thursday-22nd August 2013, with four exceptionally talented designers being recognised for their outstanding pieces of industrial design. The winners included Andrew Mboyi for Edge (winner) and Johannes Berkhout for iFlow (second place) in the student designer category, and Leigh Mclaren for Ceramic Lace (winner) and Murray Sharp for Aloe (second place) in the professional/other category. The two category winners were awarded R30 000 each, and the two runners-up, R15 000 each. In addition, the R10 000 prize for the institution that produced the most promising design students within the competition went to the University of Johannesburg. The winners were presented with their prizes at a special event hosted at the Crowne Plaza Johannesburg hotel on 22 August 2013. Overall the event was a great success and has encouraged many talented South African designers to keep on creating and learning.
