Wanderlust Collectables – Beautiful, Handmade, Unusual

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” – Maya Angelou

Inspired by a love of travel and the depth of diversity in meeting new people from around the planet, the team from Wanderlust Collectables aims to share their wares, which are often beautiful, handmade and unusual.

As a family-run business, Wanderlust Collectables is driven by a belief in the innate ability of humans from every corner of the globe to create art and beauty in everyday objects. They have a keen appreciation of travel, which enables them to share with you the artisans and unusual products and captivating stories from the places they visit.

We spoke to Haseena Dadabhay, owner of Wanderlust Collectables about how they source their products and what visitors to their Durban store can expect. This is what she had to share…

What makes your products unique?

Our products often contain an element of surprise which isn’t always noticeable at first glance. They invite you to look closer, to stop what you’re doing and allow yourself to be transported to another place, another time. In that way, you feel a connection to the maker. It isn’t a tangible thing, but many of our products take you out of your head and into your heart.

Where do your source most of your products from?

Most of our products are from Kenya, Tanzania, India and Turkey at the moment, but we are constantly looking to source from new and exciting places.

What style would you describe your products as?

I would say eclectic in the sense that the products are unconventional, artistic and full of soul. Every product has been carefully, uniquely and slowly hand-crafted, often bearing some characteristic of the maker.

What inspired you to start this collection?

My curiosity about the world and deep-seated belief in the beautiful, creative spirit of her inhabitants. I have also always felt that through connection we begin to have a better understanding of each other and what better way to connect with people in far-flung countries than through their craftsmanship!

How do you combine a boho chic style to your interior?

Fill your home with things that you love. To me, this means living in a way that is true to yourself. It’s a fluid concept and flies in the face of rules.
